Lovely house with a lot to see
Open on Wednesday and well worth a visit. Extremely influential in their day. Also a chance to be inside a Cheyne Row house without spending 9 million
The writer Thomas Carlyle moved here in 1834, when Chelsea was still considered an unfashionable area. His history of the French Revolution inspired Dickens to write ‘A Tale of Two Cities’.
As well as the architecture there is an excellent collection of modern art, including surrealists, and works acquired in 1960s. House is special as Goldfingers lived here from 1939 until NT took over. - David Brown
