The architecture here is really amazing. It looks like this temple expanded a number of times, you can clearly see different eras while walking around the grounds. ????
A fantastic place not to be missed. A place where Lord Buddha 's tooth relic is kept snd brought iut during drought to bring the rain. Be it for the annual affair or the daily visits, a great place!
Come for a Puja ceremony (there's three with one at 9:30am) and watch for times when you can view the relic. Prices were recently raised to 1500 rupees and go up to 2000 soon.
When you’re in Kandy, you have to see Buddha’s tooth, but the dress code here is strictly enforced. No shorts , tank tops, ripped jeans , etc...
One of the most famous Buddhist sacred places. Many pilgrims come here. Large beautiful complex , situated in the heart of amazingly authentic city Kandy. Ceremonies are worth seeing.
Nice interior with beautiful colors and 3 ceremonies per day when the room where the tooth relic is stored, opens and you can take a glimpse in the golden casque. Worth visiting but place is busy.
The pinnacle of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. So much religion and history is embedded in this sacred place. Do visit the museums here. And wear long attire when you visit.
The Most sacred place for Buddhists around the globe. In July / August it conducts one of the most beautiful cultural events in Asia,Kandy Esala Perahera .
Beautiful place. Go early, after 9-9.30am too crowdy there. Walk around the whole complex . Cover your knee and legs, even slightly transparent skirts are forbidden
Another touristic temple but worth to visit to see the religion and believers. And temple is also big and rich. But I prefer more local and real temples .
Probably one of the best temples in Sri Lanka . 1500 Rs for foreigners to enter!
The complex is very large and their were tons of people there. It's a somber place that's worth the visit. Lots of history.
The temple complex as a whole is underwhelming, but the two-storey structure that supposedly houses one of Buddha’s teeth has exquisite wood carvings.
Try to spend at least 20 minutes sitting on the floor with praying local people to feel the great energy of this place
Sri Dalada Maligawa, meaning the the kingdom ordained by the tooth, that is Buddhas tooth as a sacred right to rule as a Buddhist Kingdom, a must visit place in Kandy. The architecture is awesome
The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic constitutes the premier Buddhist Institution of Sri Lanka and remains the cynosure of the world Buddhist
Whether or not the tooth is authentic (or even human) is hotly debated, but visiting the temple itself is something you shouldn't miss.
The dalada karaduwa was displayed for public till 11am on a Sunday. Not quite sure if this is a daily/ weekend routine.
Definitely worth the time. Entrance fee is 1000 rp and immediately we were accompanied w/o asking by a guide who later asked extra 1000 rp. But the tour was worth the money.
A sacred and peaceful place to relax your mind
Daily "Therawa" (offering ceremonies ) at 5:30 am, 9:30 am and 6:30 pm. Be there at least 30 min. in advance. Bring proper temple attire and remove shoes before entering.
Fascinating Buddhist temple of the Theravada school. Do walk around the complex , not just the main temple .
Ancient temple and important sacred place in Sri Lanka. Don't miss it ????
This is one of the country 's most sacred places. So make sure you behave with respect.
Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy is the most prominent and sacred Buddhist shrine in Sri Lanka, even in the world.
Great !! I love Perahera !!
Temple of the Tooth. Be sure to attend the daily poojas when they main door opens to the tooth relic. A special place for me, a 24K necklace of my great grandmothers adorns the golden stupa.
The gift shop here is really good value , much cheaper than other shops on the island . Plus, all proceeds go to the temple .
Best place ever to relax your mind
The place that they take care of buda's tooth, its a holy temple and the have the pray three times a day
The guide is good and it's worth to visit it!
Beautiful temple - go early as it gets crowded
Try to go there in the evening - not that many tourists plus nice atmosphere!
Was built within the royal palace complex .
Two services a day. Gets incredibly busy. Make sure you are dressed appropriately as they are very strict on entry!
The most sacred and beautiful temple in Sri Lanka and very powerful architectural construction
Beautiful! Don't forget to cover your knees !
The best thing is to see people exercising their faith.
Can get quite busy on holidays, all barefoot
Great place for Buddhists and non Buddhist. Always crowded , specially on full moon, avoid going there on this date.
Daily "Therawa" (offering ceremonies ) at 5:30 am, 9:30 am and 6:30 pm. Be there at least 30 min. in advance.
