Knossos is a historic and protected site Heraklion located in Greece.
Κνωσός 714 09 Heraklion , Heraklion Greece
It is a must to visit. Do not save money on a guide . Irena is really professional, tells a lot of interesting things and not usual fairy tales. Come to Crete, bring your children and visit Knossos.
You do not need a guide but make sure to take the tablet with 3D guided tour (15€) Which you can share with another person just by plugging your Bluetooth headphones and sharing one per person
The archaeological site of Knossos is sited 5 km southeast of the city of Iraklion . Between 1.700-1.450 BC, the Minoan civilisation was at its peak and Knossos was the most important city-state.
Get a guide or you will understand less than the half of the Knossos palace . It is a shame that most of it is rebuilt and you do not understand what is real and what is not but it is worth the visit!
Arrive early to avoid the line , absolutely don't miss the combo ticket with the Iraklio archeological museum .
Most of it has been recently restored / re-painted (which kind of defeats the purpose of seeing things of "ancient" times). Beautiful nonetheless.
It's of those places where you experience the feeling of awe, grandiose. 'Tis amazing how old and labyrinthine the grounds you walk on. Archaeological museum in Irakleio is a must introduction tho.
The Minoan Palace is the main site of interest in Knossos. It is worthwhile to visit this monument and learn about the legend of Knossos! You san see more details here! Read more
Read about Arthur Evans before visiting to understand his influence. Bring water & hat to manage the heat. Free parking is directly next to the site (skip the dirt car park run by the taverna)
Fascinating look into the Bronze Age history at Knossos, make sure to visit early or in the late afternoon to avoid the heat and crowds.
The ruins have signs in EN. Make sure to speak with your guide before entering to ensure you understand them well . A guidebook would serve just as well as a personal guide though.
We skipped taking a guide with us and didn’t get the best benefit of our tour ..
The personnel !so kind people!of course the site is magnificent .you need at least an hour to walk through the palace .
Almost all of the ruins are rebuilt but it is still fun to look at the ruins and you should totally get a guide
Interesting place, in spite of the fact that palace mostly reconstructed. Great place for revising mythology
Start exploring Crete by visiting the Knossos Palace , the ceremonial and political centre of the Minoan civilization and culture.
To avoid the queue book a combo ticket in the heraklion arch. museum !
Knossos is 5km southeast of Iraklion . Constructed on a largely man-made hill , Knossos is the largest, most solidly-built and impressive of the island 's Minoan palaces . Read more
As everybody says - you need a guide , we used the iPad guide which was about £15.. Good to visit, you need your imagination...
Ok, the restoration may be a bit 'embellished' but it is still 4000 years old and all we have. So, a must-visit on Crete!
There is a cafe near the entrance that serves sandwich and snack . You can get a small traditional Greek sandwich for 1.85 Euro, but avoid drinks. I paid 3 Euro for just a hot tea !
Pay in cash !!when i visited the place due to electricity problems they coulden't use POS !!
Get a guide otherwise you miss a LOT of cool stuff
Not impressive enough to justify the high price. Hard to get a sense of what it used to be like. The archaeological museum is a much better choice if you can only go to one or the other
Unique historical monument.Must visit!
Huge disappointment. The sight is fairly small, hard to find parking and the queue to buy tickets was huge (30 min)...
Google maps indicates wrong location of Knossos
Nice place you can save your money and buy guide in souvenirs shop
Too much crowed! You must go early,if you do not want to wait a big line .
Where the myths of Icarus, as well as the Minotaur come from.
A MUST VISIT. simply mind blowing
Take a guide . Will make it more fun. Try to get one without big accent. Free parking next to the ruins. If you like history/art this is the spot to visit.
A must do in Crete.
Those pre-historic Minoans were no joke.
Go on Saturday. Many less cruise ship visitors.
It defenetly worth the visit with children also. Better in the afternoon. Coffee shop incredibile expensive .
Try to go early before it is too hot
An Amazing archaeological place!!!
Without a guide it’s a so so experience. Unfortunately individual guides are very pricey and it takes forever to form a group.
I prefer Phaistos than Knossos. It's better and more authentic .
Do u feel Minotaur 's breath? Explore the 'Unexplored Mansion' of the site! Read more
The place is unique
Glorious historic venue.
A place worth visiting!
Incontournable !
Mind blowing historical site - a guide improves the experience exponentially.
Geschichte
I knew local civilisations was quite advance but it is incredible what amounts of modern day concrete they used.
Nothing left to see except the ruins... There were much more to see a decade ago.
I would definitely take a guide so you know what you are looking at. Very interesting.

A must go to understand the minoan history. The first rooms are my favourite. Ask for the combo ticket to avoid the queue in Knosso palace if you want to visit both. Better be here around 10am. - David Paulince
