For games like Netrunner, HeroClix and other game tournament you can ask the owners for information on how to register for the tournament in question.
Any game can be found here. It can be intimidating to find things but the staff knows where to look amongst the ceiling-high piles.
Aside from the variety of games in this business, there are tournaments every (or most of the time anyway).
One of the few decent physical game stores in NYC. The staff can be curmudgeonly, but don't let that deter you. Lots of tabletop gaming events here, too.
In the end, if I had to pinpoint where I'm the biggest nerd, it wouldn't be history or grammar, it would be games. This is my nerdvana.
