I hope this is the FourSquare for the right location. There are 2 with the same name & address. The “real” one is up some stairs. Across the street from the flashy ground-level one. Turmeric catfish !
Best known dish from Hanoi,Chả Cá Lã Vọng restaurant at 14 Chả Cá street. After 5th generation, they're still offering original grilled fish with coriander and fried peanuts .Roughly served but good one.
This is the first place I went when I got to Vietnam. I was jet lagged but we sat down and had the best meal of the trip. They only serve one dish, Cha Ca, which is fish . (4 of 4 petals via Fondu) Read more
Their special grilled fish is just amazing. The side sauces are delicious, and you can make the dish as spicy as you'd like. I'll be returning with certainty.
Come here only if you like fish cos they serve only one dish - stir-fried fish which is tasty though. Ex, portion is small but you can still fill your stomach with d Vietnamese vermicelli .
Something different that I have so far...but I did heard Ho Chi Minh serve a better Cha ca although the this dish is from Hanoi.
Try the Cha Cá - This place serves only one dish, cha ca. Fried fish with loads of dill and turmeric , served with vermicelli noodles and cilantro .
First timer tip for Asian: when they talk to u in vietnamese, tell them "English, please" they'd understand n will bring u the main specialties right away, tell them how many persons u are.
You can refill the fish/ noodles unlimited. VND$170.000/ per person , coke and beer : VND$20.000/each
was very yummi!!! make a reservation , if you dont want to wait ????
Dubious. This isn't the original place, there are several fakes around in this area. But the food is still tasty. I would recommend going to the original place though.
Eh. The fish is delicious, love the Tumeric with all the greens. I was prepared for the rude service, and don’t mind it. We found three large hairs in our meal. Expensive for the experience
Sit upstairs, get a cold beer , get extra chilies, and enjoy tasty food.
Good thing we came here when we weren't that hungry - the portions were quite small and I didn't think the fish was anything to rave about. 170K/person for noodles and 5 pcs of bite sized fish .
..., visited the place just to try the food. Its not too special and yet its too pricey . Im not sure if the price of VND 190,000 for 1 person is only for foreigners.
They only serve Cha Cá. Grilled fish with a lot of herbs. The interior is very old (not vintage), but food is awesome. Quite pricey for foreigner. 170.000 Dong (US$ 8.5)/person
Too expensive and less different, yes, the original Chả cá is here. But it's not worth to spend that money. Servers aren't friendly . U can find other places with almost the same and much more cheaper.
There is only one dish you can order in this restaurant . Minimum pax is two. Nothing spectacular, only pricey .
This was ridiculously delicious - also we ate late so the staff was putting on pjs and getting ready for bed- where we were eating
Great experience but portions are tiny for the money you are paying (now 170,000 per person
It’s all grilled fish but I’ll be honest Cha Ca Thang Long is way better - go there instead!
Simple one dish. VND 170,000 per pax.
Portions are small and it’s really expensive by Vietnam standards (€7pp without a drink - still hungry!) Their menu makes no sense and the staff can’t explain it. Cha Ca Thang Long is way better.
Was here yesterday for lunch , and it cost VND 190,000 perperson. expensive ! But food is nice.
There are no free refills! Two if us went and we asked for some more fish , and they charged us for three persons!
This must be the most overrated food in Hanoi. The taste is so "ordinary" and the price of 170,000 dong per person is ridiculous. NOT recommended at all.
Good dish, the dipping sauce is fantastic.
Boring greasy food. Hopelessly overpriced ! We used the one in Truc Bach ! Food was indifferent. There is no menu and we did not ask price beforehand. We were ruthlessly ripped off !
Feel like bought a Corrola with Rolls Royce price.
Beware the fake and newer looking 'Cha ka la vong' on opposite side of road from the original old looking one. Overpriced (280k dong per pax) and totally cannot make it. Tourist trap!
Beware if the copy cat across the street with the LED signs.
tasty, small space, wait for long time to be served, expensive
You should try "Lòng Cá Lăng"!!! It's really gooddd!!!
So expensive , 2 people, 380.000 vnd
170,000 per person is too ex! Fish is nothing extraordinary, and portion is too little. Really out to earn travelers money.
170.000 for one person yet the portion is too small for a proper meal. The taste is not that special.
It certainly may be expensive . Clerk 's friendship may also be bad. However, I can't think that this restaurant is bad.
Probably the worst interior I've ever seen, but who cares when the food is awesome?
I've never eaten there, But I will try soon
Tasty food but charge Overprice for foreigners.
Such a disappointment. For such a price the portion, quality of food and attitude should have been much better.
Delicious but a little pricy ..120k per westerner
Severely overpriced now at 170K/person.
Beware!! This is the fake cha ca la vong. Tourist trap!
Well delicous!
Cha ca La Vong here, the original, tastes like no other. the copies don't even come close. yeah I agree, too pricey and the space has not even improved for so many years now.
Taste good but certainly not great, small portion of fried river fish with tons of oil. Over priced.
overrated and overpriced... was a tourist trap in hindsight. we definitely saw a rat .
never get tired of it <3
Use the purple sauce even tho it looks gross. Trust me.
50k for a full bowl of sticky rice (xoi xeo - which is green bean sticky green bean mash) with mixes meat. delicious. very friendly staff, good service. - Tuyen Dang
My favorite taste of 'nem chua' in Hanoi, should go with fries, 'củ sắn'. Note that the sauce is very spicy, to make it less extreme, squeeze some 'quất' (citrus) - Du Linh
Really good banh cuon. Get the grilled lap xuong sausage as well - Caitlin Wyndham
Great to wander around here, especially on the weekends when the roads are closed. Local Vietnamese come to hang out with their friends and family so it’s great to people watch. Must see area - Ashley Dando
Large market mainly for locals, the shop owners don’t hassle you which is nice. You can mainly browse in peace. Very few stalls of souvenirs, mainly clothes, fabrics and food. - Ashley Dando
Lovely Banh mi in Hanoi. Fast and good service and a super tasty lunch. - Nic Comley
