高知市上町１丁目上町病院 横に誕生地の碑はひっそりと建っています。1835年11月15日この地で誕生した龍馬は、１1867年11月15日の奇しくも自らの誕生日に京都近江屋で凶刃に倒れるまでのわずか３３年の生涯でした。誕生日であり命日でもある11月15日には毎年ここで龍馬誕生祭が行われます。
