The Dome was built on the site of an ancient Temple of Athena 😱.Most of the ancient columns are still visible .Greek temple , Byzantine Orthodox cathedral , Muslim mosque and now Catholic Cathedral 😱

Ok the piazza duomo stands a hybrid church that uses architectural elements of the Ancient Greek temple of Athena . These are the Ancient columns that are visible on the two sides

Originally a Doric Temple , with lots of reformations. The arches were added by the byzantines in the 6th century. The marble floor is Spanish form the 1500s.

Inside there are still the columns of the ancient Greek Athena temple from 480 BC

Cafe opposite serves lovely drinks and brings you a free plate of nibbles

Check out the sunlight falling through the leadlight windows!

Skip the €1 add-on visit to the chapel - there's very little to see for most tourists .

Pretty church , worth the 2€.

2 € entry per person is kinda expensive for a church ... but beautiful

Bello e antico. Colonne meravigliose.

Sia il Duomo che il palazzo a sinistra erano degli antichi templi, di cui si conservano alcuni resti al Museo "Orsi". L'imponente palazzo di fronte fu costruito dagli Spagnoli.
