The name "Tampaksiring" comes from legendary godly clash of king Mayadenawa which culminated in creation of holy water spring by Batara Indra, the god of war. The spring is called Tirta Empul.

Presidential Palace of Tampaksiring was established on the initiative of the first President of the Republic of Indonesia, Sukarno.
