Arashiyama Bamboo Grove is a hiking trail Kyoto located in Japan.
右京区嵯峨小倉山田淵山町 Kyoto , Kyōto 616-8394 Japan
Absolutely magical - a must see in Kyoto. It's a bit far out, about a 30 min train ride on the JR to Arashiyama, but well worth it. There are also some great little shops & restaurants in Arashiyama.
The best time to come is the morning on a sunny day. Grove looks gloomy at cloudy weather and usually overcrowded by tourists during the daytime.
Beautiful but best to build into a larger itinerary of the Arashiyama area. It's literally just a short , crowded path through a not-so-big grove so it's not a destination on its own.
went here during winter so the bamboos were not striking green but nonetheless, the view along the walkway was still breathtaking... I fell in love with this place!! ????????????
Some have said that stepping into this forest is like stepping into another world. It is one of the most beautiful & photographed places in Kyoto, despite only having one main path through the grove.
Make sure you bring a flashlight & a map if you prefer to roam a bigger part if the Bamboo Grove. ???? Talk with your tour group on where to meet after since there are several entry points.
I came here on Sunday Afternoon and it was super crowded . But still an awesome path to enjoy. There r many other attractions around here: temple , bridge , kimono wearing, takoyaki ,matcha ice cream ,etc.
One of the most unique and iconic place in Kyoto! it'a pretty short walk road , surrounded by tall cool bamboos . Remember to walk deeper until the end of the path to get better pics!
Almost impossible to take a good picture, but the sight is truly amazing and relaxing. Better visit very early in the morning. The entrance is just outside Tenryu-Ji temple .
Ok. Like Fushimi-Inari you're gonna want to get up really early so you can enjoy it before the buses show up. Maybe .5 mi long, but totally worth it!
If you came from tropical country , you’ll see nothing special except the bamboo are tidy and clean , made this place so instagenic. Nice to visit & take some pictures if not too crowd #TravellingKyoto
Walk around until you find the area of the grove where you can walk in between bamboo stalks. It's usually less crowded and better for picture opportunities.
Beautiful place if you need a break from Kyoto temples . Come early as it can get very crowded . The visit won't take too long so later you can head to Arashimaya town and have a nice lunch there.
Amazing! Just have to come really early to beat the queue (before 9am) after that almost impossible to get a picture without people on it.
I wish I'd checked the reviews before I went on a Saturday. So many people! Follow the signs from the station or the crowd. Don't believe peopleless pictures in your guide. It's basically a queue.
Came here on the right timing at 5pm, cooling yet wonderful temperature to have a walk and is IG worthy shot. Only thing is too many mosquito...
Best to skip this place when it's raining or you'll just end up seeing the back of your brolly and bang into other people who keep stopping to take photos underneath theirs.
The bamboo grove is an iconic photo spot in Kyoto, but gets crowded quickly, so go early to try to beat the crowds.
We went in the middle of the day, and there were massive swarms of people. Try first thing in the morning to avoid the crowds.
at the entrance, along the main road , there is a stall selling azuki mochi on sticks. do not miss this out. the azuki is the best that i have ever tasted. not too sweet.
Once you go past the main garden and temple , you will arrive at the Bamboo Grove. It gets very crowded , but once you get past the main route the crowd lessens.
Must seen! U can go there by JR Pass . A bit crowded , try to go there early morning.
It is worth visiting the gardens at the back of the forest as they have great views over the city and mountains and you get cake and tea included in the price
Stunning scenic area and you can take nice walks around all the area. Great for escaping the busy city .
Beautiful and serene place, worth a visit. Could be crowded in the afternoon but we had a pleasant stroll in the evening
Very nice walk. I recommend the "love train " through the mountains . Also, easy walk to the monkeys from that point.
Wonderful bamboo forest with many Japanese shops next to it, I'd suggest renting a kimono and have pictures next to the bamboo is a must ????????????♥️
Definitely a must visit in Kyoto. Buses is better than trains getting to the grove. #11 from Kyoto to Arashiyama and vice versa.
Make sure to continue walking past the temple 's garden exit and you'll stumble onto the Bamboo grove, which then leads back to the main road .
It's funny: I missed the needed train stop at first, found myself in Hozukyo, and the scenery over there has impressed me much more. The Grove is too crowded , especially on weekends in high season.
Very nice trail leading through the beautiful bamboo forest . Also it’s free. Like with any other thing in Kyoto try to be there early to avoid crowds.
You can do the bamboo forest pretty quickly but go early if you want a photo without the crowds. The town around it is charming with lots of lovely shops.
Amazing. You have to come here if you visit Kyoto. So far this is definitely my favorite place.
Magic walk in Kyoto. Best time to visit is early in the morning. No photo will actually reproduce the atmosphere you will experience
Nice place to walk around but can get very crowded . I liked walking around the street nearby because there are a lot of shops and restaurants
If looking for awesome photo ops, arrive here by around 9am and get the whole place to yourself to avoid the tourist and school trip crowds.
After seeing the main buildings of the temple and passing through the garden you will come to the northern gate of the complex and enter Arashiyama's famous bamboo forest . Read more
Beautiful! This was very crowded in early April but still a lovely site to see in Kyoto. Need to come.
Really small and crowed. Overall underwhelming and an anticlimactic visit. Best part was the Rilakkuma tea house!
Lovely walk, nice and shadey. Beautiful to be surrounded by all of the bamboo .
Always enjoy the tranquil peaceful moment under the bamboo shades. Come early in the morning to avoid the crowds.
Grab a snack from any of the delicious stands by the east entrance.
Wonderful place, greenery , fresh air .????????????
We took our time walking until we found the place. It's hidden inside and you can't recognized it from the outside. So crowded as we came late.
Go early to avoid the crowds (like before 0800), so you can get that great instagram shot!
From the romantic train station head towards the cycle rental and keep going, you will see the signs and the people heading towards there
arrive early (before 10am) to avoid the tour groups. walk further in after the first temple . the bamboo groves are denser and lesser rubbish from inconsiderate tourists .
Kyoto is bikeable and maybe the best transport to enjoy all the hidden treasures like Kitasaga bamboo grove and the many temples closeby.
The nature is stunning, bamboo forests surround you???? It was amazing.
There are bamboo groves in parks all over Japan. Don’t bother wading through the crowds to see the one

After leaving Okochi Sanso, follow the bamboo forest path back in the direction you came from and you will soon come to Nonomiya Shrine where the wind often rustles musically through the bamboo leaves - Edwin Shao
This is a great thing to do if the rest of the park and bamboo groves are very crowded. This was a nice quiet walk and we enjoyed the tea. - Sofia Papastamelos
