Philosopher's Path is a hiking trail Kyoto located in Japan.
左京区浄土寺石橋町 Kyoto , Kyōto 606-8406 Japan
One of the best places to come to ponder: river , beautiful trees and a long walk with cafes - one has many cats- restaurants and interesting shops (closed on Mondays) including a pottery making place.
The Philosopher's Path. Free. Easiest entrance is to the right of the street leading to Ginkaku-ji. Not well marked, but you'll know you're in right spot when it's a 2-by-2 stone path along a stream.
The Philosopher's Walk is a pedestrian path that follows a cherry-tree-lined canal in Kyoto, between Ginkaku-ji and Nanzen-ji passing Hōnen-in, Ōtoyo Shrine , and Eikan-dō Zenrin-ji. (30 min) Read more
Beautiful all year long, specially in spring and autumn. If you rent a bike even better, it's a beautiful ride.
Go cherry blossom (sakura) viewing before 9AM to avoid the crowds. Go before 8AM and you can find yourself here all alone.
Definitely most interesting when the cherry trees are blossoming. We visited right after and it was not that exciting - some pretty temples and shrines along the way but that's pretty much it...
Very nice place for a calm , relaxing stroll. There are a lot of temples around, so take some time to explore.
If you are in Kyoto for a few days. Spare a couole of hours in this amazing place. Not many people around before subset (although businesses are closed at this time).
Lovely trail that's not overflowing with tourists . Rent a bike for a fun, scenic ride and make pit stops at the shrines .
Walking way with some coffee and restaurants around, can take good pictures in all seasons, but after some time it is always same...
A nice walk along the path when the season is right, with flowers all over.
Lovely place for a walk, especially during Sakura season
Go to the toilet before starting on the trail . There are a few shops on the way, including a cafe . Look out for big fish in the water!
Really nice and calming if it's not full of tourists (as I experienced on Christmas afternoon!)
Beautiful sakura blossoms along this path. Take your time to slowly walk and admire them.
A lovely, peaceful walk with charming little shops and locals
If you want to experience Kyoto's spiritual side, you can walk from shrine to shrine along this well-tended path. Keep in mind that some sanctuaries are more active than others and be respectful.
A nice and enjoyable walk in a serene area
If you're feeling adventurous in summertime, pick a cherry from the sakura trees and eat it. It's slightly bitter and soursweet.
If hungry go for a nearby Udon place called 'Omen' authentic , reasonably priced and tasty!
Scenic and tranquil riverwalk that is less crowded . Enjoyed my evening here.
Lovely walk. 8/10
Beautiful walking path ... Very quiet at night
Go very early or go after dark to avoid crowds. It's beautiful at any time.
It's a beautiful walk , especially later in the day when it's quieter .
A worth visiting place.
Beautiful area for a walk during sakura season .
Nice path to enjoy if you have time
Beautiful - crowded , but worth the trip at this time of year.
It's awful on bike , so best to park it.
Great sakura scenic view . A must.
Gorgeous during sakura season but expect crowds
Come by sunset to enjoy this relaxing walk
Actually nothing special, beside the many wondering cats you'll encounter
Beautiful cherry blossoms during Sakura season in April. On the way to Ginkakuji. ????
Go to the trail when you are backing from the temple to take bus at the end.
Beautiful walk away from the crowds.
Nice but very crowded in peak season.
Come in blossom season. Rent bike
Pleasant walk along the canal .
Just worth going on spring when cherry blossoms are fully in bloom, otherwise, not impressive at all.
Pretty cute on cherry blossoms season
Cherry Explosion.

Over 20 lovely cats near the entrance

This is the Philosopher's Walk in Kyoto
Hey, guys, it's PHILOSOPHER'S path, monkey-with-camera's path is elsewhere. Take away your gadgets, relax, walk along the canal and just enjoy the wonderful place.
Amazing. You have to come here if you visit Kyoto. So far this is definitely my favorite place. - Mary S
The garden is really peaceful and beautiful. - Guilherme Yamakita
Stunning! Very calming and lots to see-you could definitely spend a couple of hours exploring. The aquifer and gardens are the star attractions. - Rachel Davies
One of the best temples for autumn colors. You’ll be amazed (but of course you won’t be the only one there - so crowded but worth it) - K B
