Jockey’s Ridge is the tallest sand dune on the east coast. Not only can you watch a great sunset from it but the family can go to the nearby 400 acre state park and have a memorable walk and picnic .

William Gray

Was a top attraction for me as a kid, and now my children. Hike to the top with snacks and kites and enjoy the views . Kids will enjoy sliding down the steeper sand dune faces.

Free to check out so it should be on your list. Good spot for pictures. The sand is completely different than what is on the beaches .. So much softer

Chelsea S

A hidden gem . Best sunset I've ever seen. Go a little before sunset and set up a blanket and snap a few pictures. Trek around in the sand. Great for flying a kite, too.

Brian Erickson

Always a classic. Feels like you're in the middle of the desert once you pass the first dune. See the ocean and sound at the same time.

John Smiley

4th of July you can see the Nags Head fireworks from the top of the sand dune . Park stays open late . Rangers provide some light at the end but it's a good idea to bring a flash light.

Osman Öztürk

So, just how much sand will you find here? About 30 million tons - enough to fill 6 million dump trucks ! Enjoy your trek to the top. The view is a pretty amazing reward.

Such a unique park . Giant dunes and so sandy! Worth the stop and it's free to walk around.

Sarah Peterson

went the day after rain. The sand was cool, and still damp in areas, which was easy to walk on & saved our legs from the harsh sandy wind.

Jared Paventi

Climb to the top at sunset . There is not a more beautiful place than JRSP with the sun setting in the west and sound and ocean views on either side.

Theodore Kim

The sand is *hot* in the summer, so plan accordingly. Windy, windy, windy. But worth the trip for the sheer beauty of it all.

People often kick off their shoes in a big pile at the S. Croatan Hwy crosswalk entrance across from Kitty Hawk Kites and retrieve them upon leaving the dunes.
