Cosy place above a liquor store . Non-commercial beers , with friendly staff . Food is good value and are quite large. We had steak & ale pie with mash , steak was a bit chewy. Try the Boring brown beer !
Upstairs is small with Eclectic fix & fittings. Lots of good beers to try. The food is superb as well with platters and pies available. Bottle shop downstairs with a vast range
An ancient small room full of beams, old benches , stuffed animal heads, a quirky little place with a superb range of import beers , real continental style shot through with good old Yorkshire charm.
Nice beer selection . Had the yorkshire platter, was okay. Vibe-wise, one of the best pubs I've been to; not packed and loud , cozy and historic.
A must visit pub . Decor and atmosphere makes this an incredible spot to have a drink with friends and meet new ones as well .
It's not cheap but the selection of beer is always interesting and it is very well kept. There is a £1.50 surcharge for drinking bottled beer from the shop downstairs in the pub .
The BEST hamburger I've ever had!!! Steak black & pepper burger , smokey with madness relish was unbelievable. Doesn't get any better than this!
Excellent choices of beers on tap , and an even better selection downstairs! Wasabi Pea 's compliment the beer :)
The bottle shop is great. The staff is great. The ambiance upstairs is great. About £3-4 for a pint.
Friendly bar staff , great atmosphere and if course quality beer . Magic Rocks High Wire well kept, in fact you cant go wrong with any Magic Rock beers :)
Great drinks, food and taxidermy in an amazing space. Best when it's not too busy.
Excellent selection of beers on the ground floor and super pub on the 1st. Great food too!
Great selection of food and beers . It can be difficult to get a table at busy times though as it's quite small.
Sod the shop. Head for the bar and have a few beers , and then do the shop after ????
Beer shop with an excellent selection from both local & international breweries .
Cozy , little pub that will make you feel you’re back in time. Friendly staff
If they don't have the drink you want on the bar upstairs, you can pick up any bottle from the shop downstairs and pay a £1.25 surcharge to drink it in the bar .
Nice setting. Fantastic choice of beers . Wonderful people.
Chorizo in scrumpy and Cheese platter are awesome!
Great atmosphere and some real nice ciders .
Beautiful views upstairs, well worth the wait if they tell you it's full!
Try the platters they are large enough to share between two people.
Great food, great atmosphere!
The service is terrible. We waited for the order of burger for an hour which was terrible. I really don’t get why it is rated high at Foursquare. Avoid. Get a nice bottle of gin or absinth downstairs.
The steak pie is good, ask for a small one if you're not starving.
Nice bar upstairs, great beer shop .
Atmosphere, cosy and convivial
Outstanding food from one of catering 's tiniest kitchens.
The platters are great for a light lunch or just to nibble with a beer
Bar staff (guy with a mohican) astoundingly rude. Attitude was that its a little club for cool people. Attitude just like evil eye. Hostile to "uncool"people. Totally up there own rectums. Avoid!
They have 3 Musketeers bars in stock! It's madness!
Brooklyn Brewery lager/beer is great, unusual but great
Choice of beer
Amazing find
Some lovely unusual beers , though I miss the dark beer they did when they'd just opened
Have the strawberry beer !
Upstairs above fantastic beer shop
Beer . If they don't sell it it probably doesn't exist.
On the Brooklyn Beer again!
Timmermans!
Ambiance ????????
Ask about their tasting sessions! - Richard Mitchell
Amazing selection of beers and contrary to one report prices are what you'd expect, probably a bit cheaper. Possibly the best pub in a train station you are likely to find! - Steve Drew
One of the coolest interiors in York, makes you feel like you are in an 18th century palace! Pretty paintings and chandeliers. Huge variety of spirits and beers, some with floral or fruity flavours. - Boriana Karakasheva
Huge selection of virgin cocktails for the non-drinkers amongst us (me). Try one! Really worth a visit, great atmosphere! - Muire McCallion
Czech themed bar in historic timber-framed house just behind the Shambles that serves an excellent range of specialty lagers, craft beers & cask. - Dave Milne
The extra £5 to go up the tower is definitely worth it - beautiful views. The Minster itself is of course wonderful. - James Gooch
