この像は、２歳の時に被爆した佐々木禎子さんが、１０年後に白血病で亡くなったことをきっかけに、同級生たちが、「原爆で亡くなったすべての子どもたちのために慰霊碑をつくろう」と呼びかけ、全国の３，２００校余りの学校や海外からの支援により、昭和３３年（１９５８年）５月５日に完成したものです。(広島市ホームページより)
像の下にかかっている鐘、めちゃくちゃ音が大きいです。あまり勢いよく鳴らさない方がいいかも 。
