Castello Maniace is a castle Syracuse located in Italy.
Piazza Federico di Svevia 96100 Syracuse Sicily Italy
Great views ! Built between 1232 and 1240 by Frederick II. Named after the Byzantine general who took the city in 1038 from the Arabs. Has still a Byzantine look after renovations throughout centuries.
Historic castle . Beautiful views of the sea. Entry is about 6 EUR
Restoration work is taking place and some indoor places are closed. This castle has the name of Maniakis a Byzantine general sent by the emperor to reclaim Sicily from the arabs.
It’s beautiful and so is the view , but the storytelling is nowhere to be seen. Go early before it’s too hot.
The fortifications are impressive, but the castle is closed. Entrance fee is 2€.
Painting by Caravaggio inside. Closed from Saturday 13:00 to Tuesday morning.
Great parties at weekends ????????
Beautyful castle !!!
