A great site to get close to a spectacular outlet glacier. Don't attempt to ascend the glacier without a professional guide. Glaciers are constantly changing forces of nature which can be deadly

15 minutes from Skógafoss, this is worth a stop. About .5mi walk from the car to the attached photo. If you want to go up onto the glacier, get a guide and do a tour !

George M.

I took a guided tour where we walked on the glacier for about 2 hours during winter time. On a clear day the views are amazing and you might even encounter small ice caves and arctic foxes.

Thiago Maia

One of the best experience in life. It is so amazing and make sure you get the chance to go in one of ice caves .

Andrew Talaga

A standard glacier walk was enough for me (I didn’t need an extended tour ). Hard work but well worth it for the amazing landscape

Majed Alashari

Big glacier & it is around 15 minutes from the car park . Also, you can get very close to the glacier and stand on it.

I really enjoyed the Glacier Hike . Definitely go for the earliest one (10am) to avoid the crowd.

Stunning views of this beautiful glacier and surrounding area. Definitely worth stopping at to explore.

Amazing spot, respect nature here, don't climb the glacier pieces.

Breathtaking! A must-see if you're visiting Iceland, absolutely beautiful!

There is a rigorous 45 minute walk to get to the glacier. It was definitely worth the extra walk.

Don't miss this place on your way through the south.

Very accessible and great photo opportunity

Saxow Boy

Less crowded than Jökulsárlón and you’ll see icebergs

Natalya

Be careful walking on the glacier ice. Some if it is thin. Someone in my group fell into the frozen water

Try the Blue Ice Adventure

Just a few options of snacks to eat. Only option around some miles.

Við Sólheimasand mjög nærri Skógum er ágætlega merkt leið upp að Sólheimajökul (til hægri). Hér er hægt að labba uppað og á jökul nánast beint frá vegi .
