Timber framed pub that serves good beer & homemade food for a remarkably good price for York, probably because it’s a little out of the way. Has 6 hand pumps & the chips are especially recommended.

Unnecessary expensive drinks - £5 for a pint! There is no menu neither for drinks nor food, so you must guess what is on offer. The kitchen stops working at 5pm, at least during the Euro championship
5 guest ales on, guzzler and golden pippin kept really well , not tried others yet but spoilt for choice!
As an English guy I both like and miss REAL pubs and this is one nice !
People are so friendly as everywhere in all red lion bars over England
Beer is good but don't be afraid to ask for a top-up
Great cosy pub with three open fireplaces and cool kept ales .
£3 a pint for a 4% ale - and had to ask for a top-up, cos nearly an inch of froth on glass served!
Join in on the poker night, 8pm Mondays!
Oh. They have a Christmas beer festival too!
I do like a pub with a proper fire....
Crap pub . No coffee . Avoid
Chilled vibe. Nice Halloween decorations and a lot of choice in spirits as well as beer. - Kirsten Anderson
Hidden away down a narrow street just off Micklegate. Tends to be quiet outside peak times & seasons. A good range of pumps including real ales from small breweries. A recent local CAMRA award winner. - Dave Milne
Chocolate Sharer dessert enough for 4! De-Lish;-) - Robert Wright
Nice and wheelchair-friendly; flat, level-entry, wide corridors. - Richard Winskill
