If you're a railway enthusiast , this is a must. Trains in wonderful condition and a great look in to the past. The cafe on the platform between trains is a great idea.
Been visiting there since 1964; since then it's acquired Mallard , which must be the most beautiful train ever. There's always lots going on so be sure to pic up a schedule of events when you arrive
Great museum with lots of iconic exhibits , the only slightly sad thing is that for a museum about transport, aside from a few short stretches of track at the back, the exhibits are static.
Entry is free, but worth at least £5.00 donation. Staff very friendly and even the security guard was full of knowledge and willing to help.
very well designed exhibits , tasty (if a bit expensive ) food, plethora of artifacts and information. highly recommend
Very interesting museum . Best one in York.
It's a great day out with the family York is a great place to visit.
Great kids activities and good food. Four year old son said "this is amazing!" as he walked in which says it all!!
Amazing exhibits of Britain's railway history. Even if you're not very interested in trains it's well worth a visit
Always good to immerse in the history of railways. An amazing collection, although the interpretation could be better.
Free entry and plenty to keep kids occupied, cafe is pricey but the food is good, use nearby council or station car parks as the £9 price tag for the official car park is way too steep.
One of the best museums in the UK & it's free entry
Easy to go from train station . Free entry . Nice to see historical trains and development of railways network.
Really, REALLY good, (like surprisingly good), food from the restaurant in 'Station Hall'. Fresh, tasty and (almost) home made !
Very interesting museum . Best one in York.
Go on a Friday, as there’s no school trips and it’s very quiet !
Brilliant visit. Really very interesting and well presented.
Good place to chill out , a little far away from city center, but the shuttle train is very nice.
It's huge, with loads of different kinds of train . Also the café has some rather nice cakes ;)
If you love trains , it is a good place to visit. Entrance is free.
Plenty of classic trains , such as the Mallard the story of the Flying Scotsman and the EuroStar
A great place to spend the day and set the kids little tasks to do. "Find the blue train !"
It's free entry and there's so much to see there's no need to try and squeeze it in to one visit.
If you like railways it’s well worth a visit
It's free but a minimum 3 GBP donation is appreciated. And best of all, it has shuttle to and from minster area.
On a weekend don't pay the rip off £9 official car parking charge. Park down the hill in the commuters car park - a bargain £2.50 on a weekend!
Be sure to see 'The Departure - Second Class ' by Abraham Soloman, it is one of Yorkshire's Favourite Paintings - http://www.yorkshiresfavourites.org/paintings/the-departure-second-class.html
If you have little kids, head straight out the back for the play area and miniature train .
Perfectly nice banquet food in an interesting setting
Free entry and great food at the cafes , if a little pricey
It’s a load of steam trains . What’s not to like.
Free entry ! Great for everyone who likes trains .
Free entry and excellent for railway enthusiasts
