The Shambles York North Yorkshire YO1 7LX United Kingdom
A little slice of history and loads of little shops. You can always find something interesting in the souvenir shops or just treat yourself to some proper fudge .
Cute narrow street. A must visit if in the city .
Very touristy here so it can be busy. This street is so old it’s mentioned in the Doomsday book of 1086. It was once a street where all the butchers traded. You can still see some shops have hooks.
Love the windy streets and shops. It is touristy for sure, but a great way to spend a morning.
You will notice above you that the buildings almost touch, this is because they were designed that way to protect the meat being sold below from direct sunlight. This is why the street is so narrow.
Amazing old Street with loads of fantastic shops, especially bakers and butchers .
Look out for the artist Andrew Gilmour for an excellent souvenir at an amazing price! He has a stall on the shambles.
An absolute must for visitors to stroll down this lane
Come along and have a look in the evening when the shops are closed, the people have gone and it's lit by streetlamps. Fabulous!
Amaxing atmosphere. Nice weather helped having fun. Wonderfull walk abouts!
First went there on a school trip when I was nine; have loved it ever since; at it's best when it's quiet and you can loiter
The butchers on here, just get a pork pie - best you'll ever have!!!

The ruins are delightful to see, with arch windows and detailed brickwork. You can see the original abbey marked out on the ground. Interesting history behind it, be sure to see on your York visit. - Pink 386
The extra £5 to go up the tower is definitely worth it - beautiful views. The Minster itself is of course wonderful. - James Gooch
